Demos have been conducted all over the city, and people are calling for some sort of an action from the law enforcement bodies. The violence of the crime has once more brought into focus the issue of violence against women and girl-child in India, which in the recent past has witnessed several heinous acts of sexual assault. People, including activists and citizens, are demanding not just fast actions and capture of the culprits with their punishment but reformations to avoid repetition of such occurrence.

“I want the police to arrest the culprits as soon as possible. If by Sunday they are unable to crack the case, then I will hand over the investigation to the CBI… because insiders may be involved,” Ms. Banerjee said.
The Broader Implications: Wake Up Call
The following are some of the major issues that have been raised by this tragic incidence. To start with is the issue of the safety of women in the public domain, and even in places of work where they ought to feel safe such as hospitals. It has also brought to the fore the deficiencies of current measures in the fight against such crimes such as law enforcement, campaigns against such crimes and social support for victims of violence.
In addition, it creates doubts about the society and what causes such kinds of barbaric actions to be made. That’s why the demand for gender sensitisation, respecting women, and appreciating the rights of consent is so high. It is for this reason that this case should actually act as the alarm of society to reign in on such deep seated problems in order to enhance safety of all members of society.
Conclusion: Thus, a Call for Change.
To anyone of sensitive feelings it was certainly a tragic blow, but probably one of the most shocking crime incidents that Kolkata has known. As the case unfolds, and we wait for the day when justice will prevail it is extremely important that this tragedy does not go in vain. The mourning and outrage must be translated into positive action – to seek not only retribution for the murder of an innocent woman but also to ensure change that will prevent such tragedies from happening in the future not only to New York’s women but to all American women.
While Kolkata is in mourning for the loss of its subject, the common call for justice and reform cannot and should not slacken. It is a heart-rending tragedy of a young and dedicated doctor whose entire life was devoted to the service of her fellow human beings This ghastly tragedy should make us redouble our efforts to construct the kind of society of which this monster does not, and in which every individual can live without fear.
